Right from size to brand and fittings to budget we have it all covered in the easiest understandable way. By the end of this article, you will be sure to buy a projector as per your need. So what are you waiting for?

Types Of Projectors:

So before entering into a theatrical feel lets discuss the types of projector screens available in the market. The types of projectors can be classified based on the methodology they use to portray or display the visuals on the screen.

Cathode Ray Tube Projectors

If you have studied 10+2 grades correctly then you surely know what cathode ray tubes are. This projector is a simple collaboration of three (red, green, and blue) cathode ray tubes and uses a lens to project videos on the screen.

If you are looking for a portable projector then these might not be suitable for you. Because the tubes are heavy to lift and the whole process may turn into a cumbersome mess. But not everything about CRT projectors is messy! They provide one of the best picture qualities and video effects.

Liquid Crystal Display Projectors

The name of the projector is quite clear in itself. This is the projector that utilizes both liquid and solid states, i.e., it uses a liquid crystal for the projection of the visuals. They stand in between DLP projectors and LCoS projectors which I'll be describing soon.

The advantages that LCD projectors provide are high levels of brightness, proper picturization of color black, and perfect handling of motion as well. However, you wont get LED or laser light options and have a noisy dynamic iris.

Digital Light Processing Projectors

These are invented by Texas Industries and used for front and back projections. You can see these types of projectors in classrooms. These projectors use micromirrors to project images on the screen. The micromirrors are arranged in such a way that they tilt either towards the light source in the projector or away from it and thus, show light and dark pixels.

These projectors are available in two versions that are 1 chip and 3 chip. One chip provides the sharpest quality and is used maximum times. These provide 3D effects, sharpness, fast motion, and exquisite brightness. But, everything has a darker side and these babies will provide poor emission of black color, rainbow effect, and limited flexibility.

LCoS Projectors

They are known as Liquid Crystal on Silicon Projectors. The light shines from a panel and creates the image on the screen. Three LCoS panels help in reflecting the light in comparison to traditional LCDs which use only a single LCD panel. LCoS offers dark black colors, high contrasts, and film-like images. Alternatively, they have blurred effects on fast-motion scenes, noisy 3D, and are expensive.

Lets take a look at the applications of the projectors..!

Applications of Projectors:

Now that we have seen the types of projectors let me quickly describe some of the applications of projectors. Projectors can be used in school classrooms as teaching aids. E-learning is slowly gaining demand and is often loved by students. Practical concepts like photosynthesis and light diffraction are way more fun on projector screens than on the board drawings. Not only do these methods reduce the constant exposure of teachers to chalk and dust but also encourage kids to learn better.

Projectors are also used in offices for presentations and video conferences. There might be some events with a large audience and in such situations, projector screens are the most amazing and convenient display methods.

At home, experiencing a home theatre feel with a projector screen feels warm and cool at the same time. From action scenes to romantic date night scenes everything feels better on the big screen.

Tips to consider while buying a new projector:

  • Size of your room:

Whether it be a classroom, office meeting room, or your living room the size of the room is a prerequisite in determining the length of projector screen you shall need. The size of the room and the seating arrangements must be taken care of while considering which projector to buy.
  • Budget and Brand:

Okay so this is the most important thing of all! The budget should be your top priority followed by the best brands that fit into it. If you wish to buy a smart projector with a 4K display and all features then raise your bar because it is an expensive deal and the projector price may vary accordingly. However, when you are buying a projector for office purposes then the quality and features can be altered. Some of the leading brands in this sector are Optoma, Epsom, Canon, Viewsonic, Hitachi, LG, and JVC.
  • Fittings:

Subsequently, consider the fittings of your room. You can either get the fittings done by a technician or if you know wires and cables then go ahead you can try on your own although it might take you a bit of time.
  • Light Source:

Light source is an integral part of the projector unit. The most common light sources are lamps, lasers, and LEDs. Although they provide the same levels of brightness yet, single-chip projectors are less expensive than three-chip projectors. Standard lamps are the most economical and pass their white light source thru filters before bouncing off the individual colors from the imaging chip. Laser light source does not use bulbs, is more efficient, and produces much brighter color visuals than any other. LED light source is used in pico projectors and lasts sufficiently long enough.
  • Contrast Ratio:

Contrast helps to differentiate between brighter and darker regions of the visuals. However, care must be taken that you need a high contrast ratio in darker rooms like in home environments and a lighter contrast in well-lit areas.
  • Resolution:

Clearly speaking who doesn't love a 1080p video quality or 4K HDR?! An ideal home theatre includes a 4K HDR viewing for an awesome experience. After all, no one loves blurred visuals that irritate eyes. The cheapest options will provide you a 480p resolution and accordingly, you can get 720p or even 1080p.
  • Throw Ratio:

Once you decide to purchase a new projector setup you will need to do some math. The throw ratio is the length of display the projector will project on the screen. Calculate the size of your room and the distance between your sitting position and also the distance between the screen and the projector.
  • Lens Zoom:

If you own a portable projector then you definitely wish to reduce the hustle of moving it forward and backward to adjust the projection. A projector with a lens zoom in and zoom out feature is a savior for you guys. With this feature place your projector in one place and then allow the lens to zoom in or zoom out as per your need.
