What is a Section V belt?

A Section V belt, also known as a classical V-belt, is a common type of belt used in power transmission systems. Its trapezoidal cross-section allows it to wedge into the pulley groove, providing a higher grip and torque transfer capability compared to flat belts.

What are the main advantages of using Section V belts?

Section V belts offer excellent grip, high torque transmission, shock absorption, and can operate efficiently in dusty or oily environments. Their wedging action means less tension is required compared to flat belts, reducing wear on bearings and shafts.

Where are Section V belts commonly used?

They are widely used in various industrial applications, including machinery, agricultural equipment, automotive engines (for alternators, power steering, and air conditioning), pumps, fans, and compressors.

What maintenance is required for Section V belts?

Regular inspection for signs of wear, such as cracking, fraying, or glazing, is crucial. Proper tensioning is also important; too loose and it will slip, too tight and it will cause premature wear. Belts should be replaced when they show significant wear or damage.
