New GST Changes 2025: Which Electronic Gadgets and Appliances Got Cheaper

On September 3, 2205, next-gen GST reforms were announced by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, which are to take effect from September 22, 2025. These reforms have simplified GST even more by reducing the previous four slabs: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% to two: 5% and 18%, and have introduced a new 40% slab for luxury/sin goods.

The Union Government has made these GST changes to provide relief to the common mans pockets and strengthen our economy. These reforms will directly affect the prices of several products, including electronic gadgets and appliances. Many people are confused about whether these products will become cheaper or costlier. To clear confusion, we have curated a list of electronic goods that will be affected by the new GST reforms.

How New GST Reforms Have Affected the Consumer Durables and Appliances

As per the headlines, several major products that were categorized in the 28% slab have been moved down to the 18% slab. Meaning, the GST levied on these products will be reduced by 10%, making these products more affordable for the common man. The list of these products includes the gadgets and appliances that are frequently used in households, including LED TVs above 32 inches, air conditioners, dishwashing machines, projectors, and monitors.

Here is the List of Electronic Gadgets and Appliances That Got Cheaper with the New GST Reforms:

>> TVs (above 32 inches): GST on LED, LCD, or OLED televisions has been sliced by a whopping 10%. Now, 18% GST will be levied on TVs from 28%.

>> Air-conditioners: ACs will now fall under the 18% GST slab from the previous 28%, meaning they will cost much less, but the exact discount will be based on their models.

>> Refrigerators and freezers: Both home appliances will now attract 18% GST, providing relief to the new buyers with discounts.

>> Dish washing machines: The higher capacity and featureful models are now cheaper, as they are moved to an 18% slab.

>> Microwave ovens, electric cooking appliances, food processors, mixers, grinders, and juicers: All these appliances are moved from a 28% GST slab to 18%

>> Vacuum cleaners, electric irons, hair dryers, straighteners, and shavers: All now attract 18% GST from 28%

Effect on the Prices of Mobile Phones and Laptops with New GST Changes

Will mobile phones and laptops get cheaper? No, the prices of mobile phones and laptops are the same as before. These electronic gadgets fall in the 18% GST slab and remain in that slab with no changes.

The government has made various changes to GST slabs, and they are now reduced to only two: 5% and 18%. With all the products falling in the 28% slab moving down to 18%, with a major downfall in their prices.

However, the smartphones and laptops were already in the GST slab of 18% and the government decided to keep their prices the same.

GST Reforms Made Consumer Durables More Affordable

With the reduction in new GST rates, it is expected that consumer durable items will become more affordable for the common man. The prices of appliances like air conditioners, TVs, dishwashers, monitors, and projectors will be significantly lowered with effect from September 22, 2025. Customers will see major price drops in the retail prices of these products.

A Significant Boost to the Consumer Durable Market

Both the reduction in GST rates of various electronic appliances and the coming Diwali festival are most likely to provide a significant boost to the consumer durable market. Although the prices of mobile phones and laptops are the same, the brands and the sellers of products like air conditioners, dishwashers, and other appliances are very likely to benefit from this decision. Moreover, brands can also pass down these benefits to the final customers with lowered prices and great discounts.
