Shallow Well Pumps – Your Complete Pumping Solution
These days, jet pumps are commonly used for the shallow wells. Shallow well jet pumps are single-stage domestic pumps which are designed for various pumping applications where the water is located less than 25 feet vertically from the pump.
As shallow jet pumps use liquid to draw it, they are required to be primed-filled with liquid before they are put to work. Hence, a 1-way check valve is installed in the feed line to the pump. It keeps water in the pump and plumbing system from flowing back down into the well.
How Shallow Well Pumps Work?
These pumps use a simple and straightforward mechanism to pump water. Generally, jet pumps are used for shallow wells. These pumps are placed either above the ground or in a good house. These pumps draw water through the suction process.
- An electric motor is used to power the pump.
- This motor drives a centrifugal pump or impeller, which draws the water from the well or any water source through a narrow jet.
- This narrow jet constricts and thus increase the speed and flow of the liquid.
- This liquid leaves the pump and a partial vacuum is created. This draws more liquid from the well.
- A venturi that is fitted behind the jet slows down the inflow of the liquid and increases the pressure which then pumps more water from the well at high pressure into the pump.
