Laptop- A must have for an organized and successful life

Laptop computers, also known as notebooks, are portable computers that you can take with you around and use in different environments and various places.

They include a screen, keyboard, and a trackpad , which serves as the mouse.

Because laptops are meant to be used on the go, they have a battery which allows them to operate without being plugged into a power outlet and serve to be mobile.

Laptops also include a power adapter that allows them to use power from an outlet and recharge the battery.

When you’re shopping for laptops, its necessary to go through the technical descriptions of computer components.

Once you know what these technical details mean for your laptop performance, it’s easier to find a quality laptop or notebook computer that fits your computing requirements.

Here are some details about the main laptop components you’ll encounter.

Components of the Laptop

Processor

The central processing unit (CPU) is the main controlling component of your laptop computer. Processor speeds are measured in gigahertz (GHz). Multi-core processors have more than one processor core on the same chip, for increased speed.

Hard Drive

The hard drive is the memory storage of your laptop. A big hard drive allows you to install more, larger programs and save greater number of files.

System Memory

Random access memory (RAM) is the one that makes your laptop run faster. A Web-browsing laptop needs about 2 GB of RAM,

while an entertainment laptop can have RAM ranging from 4 to 8 GB.

Screen

Laptop screens use thin liquid crystal display (LCD) screens.

You get a very clear picture running your laptop display at the native resolution, which is the resolution at which the image matches the exact number of pixels on the screen.

Optical Drive

The laptop’s optical drive to its DVD or CD drive.

External Ports

The number of external ports varies from one laptop to the other. All will have at least a couple of USB ports to connect to a smart phone, printer, or camera.

Networking

An Ethernet port will allow you to connect through an Ethernet cable to a network.

Video Card

Also called graphics cards, video cards generate graphics on your laptop display. All laptop CPUs have a graphics controller, which allows the computer to display basic video and graphics.

Below, you will find an overview to the common features of the laptop-

USB Type-C / Thunderbolt 3 Ports-

USB Type-C ports which offer a whole new world of functionality.

These ports can carry data as well as electricity over a single wire,

allowing you to power fill your laptop, and copy files with just one standard cable.

Better still, all USB Type-C cables are reversible,

which means that you never have to worry about plugging them in upside down.

Not all laptops that have USB Type-C Because Type-C is an industry standard, you’ll can use the same power brick with laptops, tablets and phones of different brands.

Some higher-end laptops also have Thunderbolt 3,

which uses the same USB Type-C connector and is fully compatible with all Type-C devices,

but adds support for even-faster Thunderbolt peripherals.

2. Higher-Resolution Screens-

In the past few years, most laptops came with 1366 x 768 resolution screens which is not a fair enough quality resolution, not only are pictures unclear, but even the text does not fits on the screen, forcing you to scroll a long way to read Web pages or edit documents.

Today, you can find an affordable system with a 1920 x 1080 or higher resolution screen that will let you see more of your work at once while you’re watching movies.

If you have a budget of spending more,

you can find laptops with 4K ultra-HD displays that represents a resolution of 3840 x 2160.

3. SSDs (PCIe x4 a Plus)-

Solid state drives (SSDs) are more than 300 to 400 percent faster, majorly changing your entire computing experience.

An SSD lets you boot faster, wake your laptop from sleep almost instantly and open your favorite applications in a fraction of seconds.

(Google Chrome and Microsoft Word, for example, open in less than a second.)

4. Nvidia Pascal Graphics

If you want to play modern games or use a VR headset , your old laptop clearly won’t be of much use. You need one of Nvidia’s Pascal chips. Look for a laptop that has an Nvidia GTX chip with a 10 at the beginning of its model number.

Ranging from the GTX 1050 on the low end product to the GTX 1080 on the high end product, Pascal chips allow you  to play AAA games at desktop-class frame rates with the settings turned up.

Even the least powerful of these can handle high-end VR applications with ease.

5. 2-in-1 PCs-

There may be places where tablet is more convenient than a laptop. You may be at the plane and you want to watch a movie, or want to quickly check facebook when in market, you wish it were a tablet. A new generation of 2-in-1 PCs gives you the best of both worlds: a laptop that can fold flat for getting things done or detach its screen for a slate and convenient experience.

6. 8GB of RAM or More- A few years ago, it was extremely expensive to buy a laptop with more than 4GB of RAM, but now 8GB is becoming standard on mainstream systems and 16GB or 32 GB could also be found.

With 8GB, you can multitask a lot better, keeping multiple tabs open in your browser while watching a video, playing a game or editing an email.

If you have too many tasks open with little RAM, your computer will slow down as it uses the hard drive or SSD

Target audience

The laptop market targets a variety of groups such as students, who are especially concerned with prices; gadget-geeks and techies, who are looking for the most advanced systems; design aficionados, who are primarily seeking a sophisticated computer that looks good; and also the people who don’t get emotionally involved in this category and only view the computer as a work and entertainment tool.
